Repair or Replace? The Question We Hear Every Week
Since 2012, TNT Spa Movers has hauled away hot tubs from backyards all over Dallas-Fort Worth. Most of the ones we remove are anywhere from 10 to 25+ years old. By the time we get the call, the owner has usually been wrestling with the same question for a while: keep fixing it, or replace it?
Here's what we've learned from watching that decision play out, again and again.
When Repairs Stop Making Sense
Plenty of hot tub problems are worth fixing. A failed pump or heater is a straightforward replacement, and if the rest of the tub is healthy, it can buy you more good years.
The math changes once the tub is out of warranty and the problems start stacking up. A simple fix can turn into periodic issues, and every service call adds up fast. Leaks are the classic example. You fix one leak, and shortly after, you find another. Each time a technician comes out, you're paying again, and multiple leaks can end up costing far more than a single pump or heater ever would.
At that point it becomes a cost-benefit decision. Keep paying out of pocket and risk more issues, or put that money toward a new hot tub with the peace of mind of a full warranty.
Signs It May Be Time to Replace
- It has more than one leak, or leaks keep coming back
- It's out of warranty and needs regular service calls
- It's 10+ years old and showing its age
- You want the features of a newer tub. Hot tub technology has changed dramatically over the years.
What Does a New Hot Tub Cost?
New hot tubs range from around $6,000 to north of $20,000, depending on the make, model and size. The big advantage of buying new is a fresh warranty that covers you for years should anything go wrong.
What Does Hot Tub Removal Cost?
Our hot tub removal service starts at $500. The final price depends on the size of the spa, how easy it is to reach, and whether it needs to be cut up or disassembled to get it out.
Trade-In or Scrap?
What happens to your old tub depends on its make, model and condition. Some units can be refurbished and have trade-in value. Others are past saving and get scrapped, and we recycle what we can rather than sending everything to the landfill.
Same-Day Swap-Out, or Remove Now and Deliver Later
Yes, the old hot tub can come out and the new one can go in on the same day.
If you'd like to make changes first, like pouring a new concrete pad or cleaning up the area where the old tub sat, we can remove the old hot tub now and come back when you're ready for the new one to be installed.
How to Prepare for Removal Day
- Turn the power off at the breaker.
- Drain the tub.
- If possible, disconnect the electrical from the old unit.
Will My New Hot Tub Need New Electrical?
Usually not. Most replacement hot tubs can be swapped in and use the existing electrical, often with little to no added expense. The new tub does need to be hooked up by a licensed electrician.
